KITTENS, YOUNG & ADULT CATS

BUDDY, DLH, MALE/YOUNG
Feeling a little lonely? Then you need a Buddy. I would offer you a shoulder, but mine are kind of small since, yes, this Buddy is a feline. While my shoulders may not be large enough for you to cry on, I’m definitely the purr-fect size to snuggle with. I LOVE cuddles. You can even pick me up and carry me around with you. Hopefully YOUR shoulders are the right size for an adorable, long-haired boy like me. Although I’m a big talker with lots to say, I promise to keep your secrets. You needn’t even bribe me with treats…although I’ll be ecstatic if you do. I love treats almost as much as I love cuddles. I even like being brushed, which is a good thing when you have an amazing coat like I do. Need a Buddy? I got yours right here.

CASSIE, DMH, FEMALE/ADULT
I’m Cassie, a golden-eyed beauty with a propensity for snuggling. Unfortunately, my former owner couldn’t snuggle with me because of allergies. That’s how I find myself homeless. But I’m obviously quite the beauty and a friendly little girl. I love to spend time with the Friends volunteers, showing them how much I appreciate their love and companionship with purrs and snuggles. My beautiful, sleek black coat glows in the sun – perhaps a window in your home is looking a certain furry someone to keep it company during the day while the sunlight is streaming through. Then, in the evening, when you come home from work, I can snuggle up next to your leg on the floor or curl up next to you or on your lap on the couch. You can tell me all about your day. Maybe we’ll curl up and watch some television together – sure, Animal Planet is fine. Maybe you like to Tivo the daytime soaps such as “As the Cat Meows.” Maybe you’re more into the dramas, like “C.S.I. – Cat Snuggling Incorporated.” Or a performance competition show like “Purring with the Felines.” Wait, you haven’t heard of these shows? Oh, well, bring me home with you and I’ll tell you all about them!

CHLOE, DSH, FEMALE/ADULT
I’m big and beautiful Chloe. The folks at Friends describe me as a Lane Bryant model-type. Hey, I’d be happy to be a model. Bring on the camera. Every side of me is my best side. I love to be pet and brushed, and since I’m larger than your average cat, there’s all the more of me to love. I have a rolly-poly tummy, thick black fur, a short tail, and super-bright yellow eyes. From time to time I can have a bit of a “diva” attitude with the other cats, but as they say, “I’m large and in charge.” Well, I’m not so sure what I think of the word “large.” “Rubinesque” is more my preference. But if you take me home as your own, you can pretty much call me whatever you want. I used to have a home and even lived with a dog before, but the new baby in the family was allergic to me. I cannot wait to find another home where I can spend my time with a family who is prepared to shower me with lots of love.

JESS, DSH, FEMALE/ADULT
I’m a beautiful little black cat named Jess. I was abandoned at Friends of Homeless Animals with my kitten – just left right there in the driveway, my baby and me. My goodness, what a thought! Well, at least I was left at Friends where my baby and I would be safe! Now we are – safe and sound in a foster home where I could nurse my little kitten, be safe and warm, and remember what it’s like to be cared for and loved. Ah, a full bowl of food all the time! Heat and warmth. A comfy couch to sleep on or under. A wonderful foster family to give me lots of love. And more love. And more snuggles. And more cuddles. My foster family laughs that it’s so difficult to get a picture of me – whenever the camera comes out, I’m even more inclined to look for lovin’. I’ll head-butt your hand if it’s holding the camera. I’ll sit on your lap, far too close to the lens. I’ll decide that whenever you’re holding that silver box with the flash, that’s exactly the time I need to clean myself or my kitten. Or maybe it’s time for a nap, and I roll my head under my paw. If you’d like a photo of me that looks like nothing but a black blur of fur, I’m sure they could share quite a few! It took quite a bit of coaxing and a bit of a surprise factor to get this one photo – hey, I’m not Tyra Banks! I’m Jessie, and I’m more interested in loving than photo ops or a cat walk! Bring on the pets!

JINX, DSH, FEMALE/YOUNG
Some might say I’m Jinxed, but I think I’m darn lucky. Well, Jinx is my name, so that much is accurate. But once I tell you my story, you may agree that I’m a lucky girl indeed. I was a little stray in a rural neighborhood. After a very bad injury, I was taken to a rural vet for a little bit of fixing up. My rescuer was a former Friends volunteer, and he made arrangements for me to join the gang at Friends. I was transported up north here to Friends and, as is protocol, was positioned in a nice, comfy bed inside one of the Friends isolation cages. All new cats stay in “iso” to make sure they’re a-ok before integrating into the rest of the population in the communal-living cattery. Well, it was barely as many days as you could count on one paw before I started getting very sick. Little did anyone know that I was fighting awful pain from a very injured leg. I was just about exhausted with all the energy it was taking for me not to show that I was really hurting. I was trying to be a brave girl, but I guess that wasn’t the best time to try to be brave. Off to the emergency vet I went for some fluids, pain meds, and extra TLC. I needed to keep off my feet for a while so I could heal. I’m happy to say I’m back to 100% and ready to find a forever home of my own. So, really, if you think about it, I’m not jinxed at all. I am very lucky to have made my way to a shelter, received excellent vet care, and be healthy enough to venture out (not outside, though!) to find a new home of my own. I’ll be happy to share my luck with you. Yes, I can be your good luck charm. Come and adopt me! I promise that getting “Jinxed” will be a very positive experience indeed!

MIGHTY MOUSE, DLH, MALE/ADULT
“Here I come to save the day!” Save the day from lack of adorableness and furriness, that is. I’m an adorable long-haired black cat who has received the unlikely name of “Mighty Mouse” by my friends at Friends of Homeless Animals. I appeared on the scene years ago as a member of the feral cat community at Friends, meaning I lived outside with some of my more skittish feline friends. I was taken to the vet for neutering and rabies vaccination and related vet care – which is why my one ear is cropped. Ear cropping lets a feral colony manager know that that cat has already been spayed or neutered. Someone unfamiliar with ferals thought I might be “Bitey,” but that person was quickly corrected – I looked regal and “mighty.” So I was dubbed “Mighty Mouse.” Now, that television cartoon superhero Mighty Mouse is known for being able to fly and fight – he would often fight the bad guys, flying up under an evil-doer’s chin and unleashing a flurry of punches. Me, I run like the wind and leave a blur of dark black and brown in my wake – my long hair as the wind runs through it. But now what I like is a person’s hand giving me pets running through my thick coat. I particularly like to deliver not fists to the face but head-butts from my furry face to your hand, arm, leg, or whatever is within this super-cat’s reach. Based upon my super-cute appearance and demeanor, I’ve become quite a volunteer favorite. I’d love to come to save your day from being feline-free by becoming a purr-manent member of your super household.

MOUSE, DSH, MALE/YOUNG
I’m Mouse, and along with my sister Vree, I’m looking for a new forever home. Vree and I were adopted from Friends of Homeless Animals when we were wee kittens. Unfortunately, our family had to move and could not take us with them. But at least we still have each other. When you come out to the shelter to meet me, you will notice, first and foremost, that I am no longer a kitten. No, I’m a big and strong young man. The second thing you’ll notice—well as soon as you begin to pet me—is that while I’m an adult now, my fur is just as soft as any kitten’s. I’m told that I’m quiet the handsome fellow. Do you agree? If you think I’m a looker from my photo, just wait until you meet me in person. Now, this last part is a secret just between you and me. See, if word about this gets out around the communal cattery, I may no longer be considered BCOC—that’s “big cat on campus.” My secret is this—if you pick me up, I’ll cuddle up in your arms with you. You can carry me around and snuggle with me, just as if I were a little kitten again. But let’s just keep that between you and me, shall we? I’ve got a reputation to maintain. Well, I’m off to sit in the windowsill, snuggled up to my sister. Hope to see you soon. (P.S., and don’t forget to pick me up for a test-snuggle when you come out to meet me.)

SHAQ, DSH, MALE/YOUNG
Are you ready for a Shaq Attack? An attack of adorableness, that is! I’m an all-black cat with the name of Shaq. I’ve always been an indoor cat and used to live in a home with my adoptive mom. But mom ran into some serious health problems such that she could no longer care for me or my pooch pal. That’s how I came to Friends of Homeless Animals. I’m told that because I’m such a great personality, well-behaved, and good-natured—I’m good with other cats, with dogs, and with kids—that I’ll be scurried away to a new forever home very soon. So don’t delay in coming out to Friends to meet me! I like to be pet, but I also like my independence. I like to hang out up high—on a hair, table, counter, or cat condo—so that I can survey all that’s going on. I’m quite the curious fellow.
And I’m definitely curious to find out what’s the next chapter in my life’s journey, the next home I get to call my own.

SWEET PEA, DSH, FEMALE/ADULT
Do you know the story of the princess and the pea? Now, most people recall that some complaining princess slept on multiple mattresses and there was a pea in between two of the mattresses, but the rest of the story goes a little foggy, right? Well, let me give you some of the back story as to WHY that princess came to sleep on those mattresses and, by default, that pea. You see, there was a prince who was looking for a suitable partner, but none of the supposed princesses he met seemed to measure up. Then one stormy night, a gal appeared at the castle, asking for respite from the storm and indicating that she was a princess. Now, in the story, it’s thought that only a true princess would be sensitive enough to be able to feel the pea between all those feather beds. A bit of a reach, if you ask me, but nonetheless, the princess declared that something hard in between the mattresses kept her from sleeping, the prince declared his love, and apparently they all lived happily ever after. Now, why do I tell this story? Well, my name is Sweet Pea…but I want to be painfully clear to my potential family that while I like fluffy cat beds as much as the next kitty, I DO NOT want to have to sleep on a pea. If I have to sleep on a pea, I may become less than sweet. And if I cannot sit on a lap when I want one, I may become a little diva princess of my own. I like comfy cat beds and I like laps. Well, if you don’t state up front what you’re looking for, you can’t blame your new family for not knowing. So those are requirements for my adoptive family, ok? If you make me sleep on a pea, your prince will be waiting for quite a while for the perfect princess….and might just get a hiss instead of a kiss. So, fluffy bed with no peas, occasional lap-sitting sessions. Those are my base requirements? Get it? Got it? Good! Now let’s go home!
P.S. I really have a little bit of white on me as you see under my neck. I kinda snuck into the Black Cat section....

V.C., DSH, MALE/ADULT
I’m V.C., or Viese. You can call me either one, seeing as they’re both pronounced the same way! I came to Friends by way of a feral colony, but I’m not feral at all. You can tell from looking at me, though, that I’ve probably seen a scrap or two in my time on the streets. I must say, though, that I’m very glad to be enjoying the indoor cat life and all the good things that brings. One of the best things that the indoor life here at FOHA brings is the opportunity to find a family of my own. While I’m waiting, I get plenty of pets and affection…something that street life was definitely lacking. I even have made some new best buddies here at the FOHA cattery, including some other cats who have stories much like mine of life on the streets, now far in the past. I like to be pet, be scratched around the ears, and head-butt legs. Now, some people may think that black cats are bad luck, but I have to say that nothing could be further from the truth. Speaking purr-sonally, I’ve had so much good luck as of late, I’m thinking it’s got to be contagious. I’m sure if you pet me a lot, some of that good luck will rub off on you. Yes, you can think of me as your good luck charm. Now, you know how if you rub a genii’s bottle, the genii will appear and give you three wishes? Maybe petting me works the same way! What do you think? Well, I’m sure it will work out exactly like that, in fact, especially if your first wish is for a loving feline companion in your life. See, what could be more lucky? You and me together would make one truly lucky pair.

WILSON, DSH, MALE/ADULT- POLYDACTYL
Hi, I’m Wilson, a very sweet and very cool cat with polydactyl toes. No, not “pterodactyl” like in “Jurassic Park.” Polydactyl means extra toes – so I look like I have super-sized feet. Polydactyl cats are sometimes referred to as “Hemingway cats” because author Ernest Hemingway was very partial to us extra-toed felines. So I have a literary heritage and a cinematic one as well – my rescuer named me Wilson after the volleyball companion of Tom Hanks in the movie “Cast Away.” Why Wilson? Because I keep getting left behind. My original owner was evicted, and all of her cats were relocated to new homes – all except me. I was left behind. I befriended a little female cat, and we became a little family when she became pregnant and had kittens. But my lovely lady friend was the victim of cruelty – someone shot her. I could be sad about my fate, but I’ve decided that “Whiskers Up” should be my motto. Hopefully som eone will realize that I’m a wonderful companion. Like that volleyball Wilson, I’ll sit and listen to your cares, especially when you’re feeling all alone. Goodness knows I’ve been there! You needn’t be a celebrity or multi-millionaire like Tom Hanks to be my best friend. Just be committed to a lifetime of love with a loving kitty like me, have enough money in the “kitty” to fill my bowl and make sure I’m healthy, and provide me with maybe a toy or two – no volleyballs, though. Catnip balls are more my style. Please let me know from time to time that I’ll never have to be alone and I’ll never be left behind again, and I’ll whisper the same to you while you sleep. I promise to be a faithful friend
Wilson is sponsored by: Jessica Simon in honor of all good kitties who need a furever home.
